The Scouts learned to lay out a ridge today, and then they did it twice.
The crew laid out and cut a rafter pattern for both a common rafter and a fly rafter, on two different roof pitches: a 4-12 and a 2-12. Each pattern got a bird's mouth notch, the seat cut that lets a rafter sit down on the wall plate instead of just leaning against it. Cut the pattern right and every rafter after it is a copy. Cut it wrong and you find out forty rafters later.
With the patterns proven, rafters went up on both the 4-12 and the 2-12 pitch. The team also ran all the wiring for the outlets, the air conditioning, and the lights, and sheeted the exterior walls. A little wiring is left for tomorrow, waiting on a couple of parts that never made it to the job, and the breaker panel still needs to go in.
After the tools were down, the crew ran to Lowe's for a few items, and then Matt Pigg took the whole team to dinner at Outback. Earned.
