Every program area needs somebody a nervous fourteen-year-old will actually approach. At Skilled Trades that is Ian Young, and he knows it; he says so himself, without any fuss about it.
Ian is from Archer County, Texas, and he works summer camp in Missouri at Camp Hohn alongside Matt's son. They have known each other a couple of years. When Matt was looking for people to staff Skilled Trades at this Jamboree, Ian was coming to the Jamboree anyway, so the math was easy.
Ask what he does here and the answer is a little bit of everything: helping out wherever the work is, getting people into safety gear, being the young face at the front of the tent. This morning that means organizing tool bags and then setting up the PPE area, with one more tent to square away after that.
The rest of the year he is at Marquette in Milwaukee, in the pre-law program and studying business. Free time goes to water skiing and sailing, which is a long way from a Texas county line and a longer way from a West Virginia mountain in July.
